Self Defense Equipment Grant
The Merlet Family Endowed Fund and the Morse Family Fund of the Lancaster Community Fund of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc. granted $5,200 to the City of Lancaster for self-defense class training, providing for the purchase of key equipment such as a training suit, mats, and mace. The program was met with significant community interest and backing, securing additional funding from Lancaster Subway and Community First Bank.
The Lancaster Police Department is offering a free Self-Defense Course taught by Lancaster Police Department Sergeant Justin McLimans. This training consists of a series of 4 classes held within a 4-week period. It focuses on teaching attendees to be aware of their surroundings and recognize potential threats. Also, how to respond and react to a physical encounter with an assailant.
Subway Owner Courtney Sheckler offered her support to the program after feeling empowered by the experience stating, “I gained significant insight from this self-defense class, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support its ongoing success.” Class registration can be found under the City’s recreation registration website HERE
