Sonny Days

When:

Sonny Days provides the opportunity to not only learn about Sonny Tiedemann’s important and special story, but to also give people a chance to bring sunshine and promote kindness in our community. There are a few items listed to do during the week –

·        * You can buy a daisy at Country Flowers to give to someone and share some sunshine.

·       *  Morningside Assisted Living is giving away FREE ice cream drumsticks on Monday, April 22.

·        * Pay It Forward at The Coffee Tree

·        * There will be sidewalk chalk put out for the creation of sunny drawings & messages

·        We encourage YOU to take part in this week of kindness in any way that you would like.

We want to highlight the BIG finale to the week, the FREE Grant County History Museum Open House on Saturday from 9 to 3.  This year we are focusing on Keith Tiedemann, Sonny’s younger brother.  He is the founder of the Lancaster Community Fund and also the big donor of the $4.33 million to this fund in his brother Sonny’s name.  Lancaster has benefited greatly from this generous gift that has provided many grant opportunities and will continue to do so far into the future.

Come early on Saturday to enjoy a FREE Purity Bakery Cinnamon Stick, made by The Coffee Tree, using the recipe of Charlie Tiedemann, Sonny and Keith’s father, who owned the Purity Bakery.

·        A BIG highlight this year will be Mr. Rob Bell of Lancaster portraying Keith at 10:00.  He will be sharing Keith’s fun personal tales of his Tom Sawyer boyhood growing up in Lancaster.   You will hear stories and see pictures of Keith’s very interesting life, how he always stayed connected to his hometown and then started and donated to the Lancaster Community Fund.  Some of Keith’s memorabilia will be on display.

The author of the children’s book, “Sonny and His Car” will share her book at 10:30.  You will want to make sure you see Sonny’s bright green pedal car in the museum.

Because Keith is the founder of the Lancaster Community Fund, their board has generously offered to provide 150 FREE Soggy Bottom Barbecue meals from 11:00 until gone.  Vesperman Farms Ice Cream Truck will be there from 12:00-2:00.  Let’s hope for a “Sonny” day!

Visitors can also enjoy playing Sonny’s favorite marble game, taking part in a Museum Treasure Hunt to try to win a Box of Sunshine, and planting some sunflowers to take home.  There will also be a fun photo opportunity.  The museum is a great place to explore.
